New music, small update

Hello everybody, a quick weekend update for ya'll.

Seamus and I are doing well. We're enjoying a restful weekend for once, where we are both able to happily plod along with homework without an crises. Seamus's friend Brandon moved back to Utah from Indiana, new girlfriend (Courtney) in tow. They were over the other night and we had a lot of fun with them. Seamus and I were both relieved that his GF is just as cool/funny as Brandon is. We saw "The Men Who Stare At Goats" and it was pretty good. Not fabulous, but definitely fun. It's really great having Brandon back, and of course Courtney is really great too. I get a little too single-minded in my work sometimes and it's nice to just go out and have fun with friends. I'm also glad because Seamus needs a good guy friend around to talk video games with, haha.

On the note of friends returning, Audrey and I finally got back in touch. She was living in Amman, Jordan over the spring, which is why we fell out of touch. She's doing great, and has a job as a program director for an NPO. It's long hours, but in this economy, she's just relieved to have a job that is actually related to what she studied.

It's my birthday on Wednesday, and my boss was kind enough to give me the day off, so I will hopefully have term paper #1 finished then. That will be an excellent birthday present to myself. I've started off by writing the one about the Roman navy, and I am pleased to say that it is coming along well. I hope to have a first draft done by Monday, and then I'll keep "polishing the turd" intermittently. I'll move on to the other term papers later this week, and hopefully they will go as smoothly as this one has done so far. I'm keeping my wits about my by taking breaks, meditating through cooking (you can't stress when you're chopping onions!) and setting up my desk so I don't wreck my neck again. Below: my boss desk-setup

Two monitors....YEAHHHHH! This really beats working on the couch, using a pile of books to hold up whatever one I'm reading while balancing my laptop on the arm of the couch.

As for the Connors, Hugh and Clotilde have been very helpful even though they've been both ill and busy this week. They brought us turkey soup and seeded bread the other day when I was too tired to cook, and we had a grand ol time forgetting school with them for a little while. Clotilde is have more problems getting her PhD going, but she's handling this newest crisis very gracefully. Hugh has been able to help me in translating the bits of French I'm encountering in my research, as well as giving me some perspective about West Africa. It's been invaluable being able to say, "So what DO real Africans think about this?" and to get firsthand accounts from him. I had Clotilde take the Myers-Briggs personality test, to see just how opposite she is to Seamus and myself (we're both INTJ, the "mastermind" personality hahaha) and Clotilde is.....drumroll...the "Teacher" personality! I should've known hahaha. It was right on the money. I think there's a good chance that Holly has the same, actually.

Anyway, I have to get back to work, but I thought I would give a quick update.

One last thing, a great quote from Sluglett the other day when discussing credible sources...

"What is life without citations anyway? No life at all, that's what."
