Hiya family! It's that time of year that I go back to school, and what better time to do so?
You might be thinking, "Wait, but people usually return to school in the Autumn, with the crisp fall air, the changing of the leaves and people jaunting about in sweater vests and griping about their Anthropology professor on their way to rugby tryouts."
Yes, that's true, if you have money and go to Cambridge. However, I go to the University of Utah and here in the great ol' US of A we pay for our college educations ourselves usually, and as a result are influenced by the world outside the august halls of academia. It's rather hard to hold reverence for one's college education when your main concern is the interest rate on your loans. Still, I'm glad I'm there, wandering halls built by 1970s architects that had a visible affinity for cinderblocks.
I've got a new major, which has made things a little better. Community and Consumer studies, a part of the FCS department. I'm already missing the people in the Philosophy department... but ultimately, I don't want to be with my buddies in the bread lines. I'm sure I'll see all my old Ethics friends when I'm volunteering at the soup kitchen. Plus, I've already got a friend in CCS, Clotilde. She's doing her PhD, but we have a class together on Tuesday nights with a very good professor, one Dr. Caitlin Cahill. Despite the silly misspelled first name, she has an excellent reputation and I expect to learn a great deal from her.
As far as life in general goes, it's pretty good. I haven't been able to find other living arrangements, so I'm just going to wait for Hannah to get out of the dorms in May and then we'll be off probably at the Northgate apartments by the Gateway.
An update on other persons of interest:
Hannah was accepted to a prestigious dance company which she tells me is "exploring the feral nature of women" which I don't really understand, but it involves cool costumes. She is also still co-president of QSU and dating Jason Hargis, a short man with a large head but nevertheless cute and treats Hannah very well. They both play alot of Wii these days.
Jason followed Seamus into the Computer Science major, as they both found that the U's Mechanical Engineering program was very behind current technology etc and that they both hated Thermodynamics. He's still working at the Post Office and trying to explain computers to Grandma Verla. Here's a Hannah and Jason picture from over the break...

Seamus, that hot strapping Irishman, apart from STILL claiming that chocolate is "really quite good" on broccoli is in CS now as I mentioned, and working for L3 Communications. We spend most of our time looking for interesting places to eat around SLC and find decent coffee. When we're not doing that, it's talking about cartoons, politics and making fun of people we see on the street and playing "Your Team" with Jason and Hannah.
Clotilde and Hugh are also doing well. Clotilde is writing her dissertation and it's taking up pretty much all of her time and energy but still manages to make a mean Mac 'n Cheese. I got her a Dior Casablanca cup and saucer and she loved it. Yahoo! I found something that she likes without being told she likes it!!!

Hugh sneaks in sugary things when Clotilde isn't watching and is quite happy doing so. Otherwise, it would appear he is addicted to Sudoku. Etienne, the cat, likes to bite me and then claw my leg before falling asleep on my stomach. It's tough love with that kitty.
